Franklin BOMA & Transit Authority Approve Franklin Transit Master Plan
On Tuesday August 4, the Franklin Transit Authority approved the Franklin Transit Master Plan. The Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to approve the Plan July 14. The plan is a vision-based guide for the Franklin Transit Authority designed to provide short-, mid-, and long-term goals and recommendations on Franklin’s transit services to guide the next 10 years.
The plan outlines 14 goals and objectives for Franklin Transit Authority over the next decade, including adding new technology, expanding routes, more user-friendly and accessible transit on demand service, increased connectivity to regional services like WeGo regional routes, and additional outreach and education about Franklin Transit routes and services.
Franklin Transit riders, operators, staff, and members of the community provided input on surveys, while additional individuals participated in public workshops, discussion groups, and social media posts over the past year. Riders and non-riders want more transit routes in a wider service area, more frequent stops, improvements to bus stops, and alternative payment options like mobile pay.
Ridership on Franklin Transit has grown from more than 82,000 trips in 2015 to just over 100,000 in 2025, briefly dipping to almost 42,000 in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to data gathered in the Master Plan.
“The new goals and objectives of the transit master plan were truly created from community input,” said Franklin Mayor Ken Moore. “As Franklin grows over the next decade, transit will be a very important component for our community. I’ve been a long-time advocate of transit, serving on the Regional Transportation Authority Board, and linking to our regional transportation options >will be imperative for the future.”
Franklin Transit Authority anticipates implementing initial plan recommendations by the end of 2026.
