A Special Day for Teens to Ride Franklin Transit

On July 22, Franklin Transit welcomed local tweens, teens and their families for a day of fun and independence during its free Teens Try Transit Day. Designed for young people ages 12 to 18, the event introduced riders to the convenience of riding Franklin Transit, connecting them to Franklin’s most popular destinations. 

Perhaps the greatest success of the day was watching teens gain confidence as they learned how easy it is to navigate public transit. Many participants were first-time riders who discovered that Franklin Transit offers a safe, affordable and convenient way to travel independently throughout the community.

“Our goal was to help teens experience the freedom and confidence that comes with learning to use public transportation,” said Debbie Henry, President and CEO of The TMA Group. “Seeing so many young people enjoying the day, exploring Franklin and building confidence made this event an incredible success.” 

The day began at the Franklin Transit Center, where participants checked in, received a complimentary event wallet filled with coupons and special offers, and mapped out their their rides. From there, they boarded the Blue Route, which operated every 30 minutes throughout the day, allowing riders to hop on and off at their own pace. 

Stops throughout Franklin offered memorable experiences for every participant. Teens enjoyed complimentary treats from Kilwins Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop, explored Downtown Franklin, created keepsake zines aboard the Department of Curious Things Field Bus with local artist Anna Skates, rode the Carousel of Dreams at The Factory at Franklin, sipped Bubble Love boba tea, and received Chick-fil-A meal coupons while spending time with friends at CoolSprings Galleria. 

The event was made possible through the generous support of community partners including Bubble Love, Chick-fil-A, Kilwins Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop, The Factory at Franklin, Ken Means Carousel of Dreams, Anna Skates’ Department of Curious Things, and the City of Franklin. Their participation helped create a day that celebrated community, exploration and the value of public transportation. 

Following the enthusiastic response from participants and parents, Franklin Transit is already exploring opportunities to make Teens Try Transit Day an annual tradition, continuing its mission to connect people of all ages with the places and experiences that make Franklin such a vibrant community.
